Chief Imam, Okada rider slain in fresh Plateau attack
A Chief Imam identified as Sani Idris and an Okada rider named Muhammad Gambo have reportedly lost their lives in a recent attack in Bakkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.
This unfortunate incident occurred just a week after a series of attacks claimed over 150 lives across 23 communities within the same LGA.
The chairman of the Gan Allah Fulani Development Association Garba Abdullahi, confirmed the latest attack on Wednesday.
He disclosed that the chief imam was serving at the Jumma’at Mosque in Ndun village, Tangur District, Bokkos Local Government Area.
Providing details on the incident, Abdullahi narrated, “The chief imam and his younger brother were attacked on Monday after arriving at the community to collect some of their belongings left from the recent attacks where houses of our members were burned down. So, they went there to see if they could pick up some of their property, but they were suddenly attacked. The hoodlums killed the imam while his younger brother survived machete wounds.”
This fresh wave of violence follows the Christmas Eve attack in Bakkos LGA, during which gunmen targeted the villagers, resulting in hundreds of casualties.
The earlier incident prompted widespread outrage among Nigerians, highlighting concerns about the government’s apparent inability to safeguard the lives of citizens.
Despite the Nigeria Police Force initiating a special operation in response to the initial attacks, the recurrence of violence in the region remains a pressing issue, raising questions about the effectiveness of current security measures.
