Bandits kill father, son in fresh attack on Plateau community
In another wave of violence, gunmen attacked Durbi village in Shere District, Jos East Local Government Area of Plateau State, resulting in the tragic death of two individuals—a father and his son. The incident unfolded on Saturday night, causing distress in the community.
As the assailants carried out the attack, villagers courageously resisted, leading to the death of one of the attackers.
The bodies of the victims, including the deceased assailant, are currently being held by the villagers.
The recent assault in Durbi village occurred just days after a spate of attacks on communities in Bokkos and Barkin Ladi local government areas of Plateau State, where approximately 150 lives were lost, and numerous others sustained injuries.
The spokesperson for Operation Safe Haven, Captain James Oya, provided insights into the latest incident.
He stated that the attack was an attempted kidnapping of Luka Kaze, during which Kaze’s son was tragically killed.
Oya explained, “When troops started coming for a rescue operation, the abductors mistakenly shot one of their colleagues, adding that the gunman shot Kaze dead out of anger.”
The ongoing security challenges in Plateau State have raised concerns, and local authorities, as well as security forces, continue to grapple with restoring peace and protecting communities from further violence.
