Service Chiefs, ministers visit Plateau after fresh attack

The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, and the service chiefs visited Plateau State shortly after a fresh attack by gunmen on Sunday.

Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Betta Edu also accompanied the service chiefs on the visit.

The visit comes after bandits killed both father and son in a fresh attack that occurred in Bokkos Local Government Area of the state.

This marks the second time the state has been attacked in one week. In the first attack on Christmas Eve, over 190 persons were killed in Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi local government areas of the state.

Service chiefs present were the Minister of Defence Staff, General Gabriel Musa; the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja; the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla and the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Hassan Abubakar.

According to the the Transition Implementation Committee chairman Markus Nyam, the recent attack occurred on Saturday night where the attackers killed a father and son upon invading the village.

He also said that the vigilantes succeeded in killing one of the attackers while the other fled.

The Joint Security Task Force Operation Safe Haven personnel have also been deployed to the community to prevent further attacks.
