Following a threat to attack residents of Olofa Estate in Ofatedo, Osun State, by robbers, the State Police Command, has urged people to report suspicious movements in their neighbourhood, saying the Force is ready for any eventuality.
It would be recalled that a gang of robbers, had written to inform the community of an impending attack unless a sum of N20 million was given to them.
In the letters sighted by The PUNCH, the robbers threatened to kill all the watchmen in the community, saying no house would be spared if they attacked.
The letters read in part, “This is to inform you all that we thieves are coming to this community. We won’t spare any house or else you contribute a sum of N20million and keep it with the chairman. We will only visit and take the money from him.
“We will kill all your watchmen if they try to stop us. We are coming with full force.”
The threat which had led to panic in the community had forced some residents to relocate from the area.
However, reacting to the threat, the police in a statement signed by the Osun Command Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola, on Friday said people should not entertain fear.
The statement read in part, “Concerning the Ofatedo’s community threat by the criminals, who had threatened to invade the community, people should not entertain any fear. We are fully prepared for them.
“The Commissioner of Police is using this medium to encourage everyone to swiftly report any strange movement in their community to the police through Osun Police Control Room numbers.”
