Professor Idris Mohammed, Chairman of Gombe State TaskForce on COVID-19 has said that the Personal Protective Equipment donated by Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and North East Development Commission (NEDC) are not complete.

Mohammed disclosed this on Friday at the daily briefing on the progress of COVID-19 in Gombe state.

Personal Protective Equipment is a protective clothing, helmets, goggles, or other garments or equipment designed to protect the wearer’s body from injury or infection.

He said the committee had taken the donated items to the governor, to acknowledge the received items.

He stressed the decision of the committee to reject the incomplete personal protective equipment noting that it is with the governor’s approval.

He said, “Yesterday we announced that some Personal Protective Equipment donated by NCDC and the North East Development Commission were substandard and we are rejecting them. We took it to the governor to show him what was sent along with a typical Complete Personal Protective Equipment. In showing you these items am following the directives of His Excellency.”

The chairman who further called on a member of the committee, head nursing to display the received incomplete items said the donation lacked basic components of a full PPE saying “as you can see no face mask, no Shoe,no glove just a gown, we will have to buy the other items that are missing.”

In a similar vein, Professor Mohammed appreciated the Muslim World League, led by the chief Imam Masjid Taqwa, Adamu Mohammed for donating 150 units of PPE, 100 Goggle, 250 units of N95 and 1000 pieces of ordinary face masks to the taskforce.

Recall that the state recently received a total of 1800 Personal Protective Equipment, 200 of which was donated by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control.
