IPPIS: Accept UTAS or nothing – Gombe ASUU
Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU), and the Federal University of Kashere, Gombe State has said that Universities Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) is most ideal for actualizing transparency in the system.
Further noting that Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) is not free from corruption.
The union also stressed that no amount of intimidation, sabotage or blackmail will deter it from pursuing what is right and best for the university system.
The chapter stated that it has resolved to inform the general public and the federal government in particular of its resolution and readiness to abide by the No pay, No work rule of the union even if the salary of one branch is not paid.
According to the Union’s Chairperson, Dr. Ahmed Yauta, who addressed journalists in the state, he said that the Union condemns in unequivocal terms the glaring act of abuse of power as well as laws of the land.
He Stated, “An injury to one is an injury to all. The branch urges members to remain calm, steadfast and resolute in the face of intimidation and tyranny. The union has made coherent presentations (including a meeting with the Visitor to federal universities and made presentation of an alternative to IPPIS called Universities Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS).
“The public should note that this government failed in its promises and agreements entered with the Union in revitalizing Nigerian Universities. It’s therefore imperative to note that the federal government is using Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) as a strategy to divert the Union’s attention on the MOUs and MOAs since 2009.”
Yauta stressed that stoppage of their salaries can not deter them adding that “Until the federal government does what is right for the development of our universities and education in general. The union has repeatedly pointed out that enrolling into the IPPIS is not in the interest of academics and university education.” he added.
