#KFCProposal: Man mocked for proposing in KFC gets dream wedding from top brands [Video & Photo]
A South African man identified as Hector Mkansi, who became an internet sensation after a video of his proposal to his fiancé Nonhlanhla Soldaat in a Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) restaurant went viral on social media, has finally tied the knot.
A few months ago, Mkansi was trolled and mocked by many social users for proposing to Nonhlanhla at KFC.
The couple, however, tied the knot on December 31 in a luxurious dream wedding sponsored by top brands and other individuals.
The newlyweds who are still in disbelief over the support accorded to them, exchanged vows for the second time in an all-expenses-paid wedding courtesy of well wishers and brands across South Africa while top celebrities also attended the couple’s reception and entertained their guests.
“We are still in disbelief, both of us have to ask each other if this is really happening from time to time. We couldn’t be more grateful to God and every single person that has shared in our little love story,” said Mkansi during an interview with CNN.
In the engagement video uploaded on Twitter, Mkansi was seen going on one knee at a KFC proposing to his Nonhlanhla who at this time was overwhelmed with tears of joy.
Not everyone was impressed by his proposal. A section of social media users attacked and mocked him for being too broke to give his fiancé a proper proposal
A South African lady identified simply as Anele tweeted:
“SA men are so broke, they even propose at KFC. They have absolutely no class, I mean who proposes at KFC?”
Anele has since deleted the offending tweet after she provoked angry responses from other Twitter users and has since switched her
account to private.
The backlash caught the attention of KFC and the brand immediately came to their rescue and asked the public to help them identify the couple as they wanted to give the two their dream KFC wedding.
“Thank you, South Africa. Your kindness has truly warmed us. We would have never imagined that our love story would have touched so many of you. While we appreciate the support, we ask that you please give us a moment to take it all in. We will let you know about our plans around the wedding,” wrote KFC.
It wasn’t just KFC who were keen to have an input on the couple’s big day with several other brands coming forward to offer their
services. Puma offered over £500 worth of clothes, Audi offered a car to get them to their honeymoon while Huawei offered the pair new phones to capture memories on. Standard Bank SA also promised to clear their loans.
“We didn’t want to steal the happy couple’s shine but since some of you have asked, we’d like to offer them a clean slate. Over & above imvula mlomo, we’ll clear their personal loans up to R300k & if they’re with us we’ll clear it all! No need for skoloto!” the bank wrote.
Other gifts came in the form of diamond rings and a new kitchen, other well wishers also chipped in offering spa appointments among others.
