Proud people are prone to committing suicide, Cleric says
An Ilorin cleric, Pastor Adedoyin Adeyemi, has cautioned Christians against pride, saying that it was what made Lucifer fell out of favour with God.
Adeyemi gave this warning in his sermon at a service marking the end of a 30-day School of Answered Prayers (SOAP) programme of Christ Foundation Bible Church in Ilorin, Kwara state, on Saturday.
“Pride goes before disgrace.
“A proud person claims to know it all; he is a lonely person because he isolates himself.
“Proud people are prone to committing suicide, because they are afraid of change and failure.
“They get depressed because it didn’t work their way. Why not try again? He does not even want to try because he feels it is belittling and resorts to taking his life.
“Pride produces quarrel, arrogance, disgrace and ultimately destruction. A proud person does not go too far in life,’’ the cleric said.
He added that proud people could not succeed on their own, because a tree could not make a forest.
Adeyemi urged Nigerians to be very careful of pride and careless talks.
He urged people to value others and make them important, respect them, appreciate and understand other people’s limitations.
“Humility is the key to progress, if you want to live long, respect others, and be an active listener.
“Admit your mistakes and learn how to apologise, stop comparing yourself with others. The Bible says comparing yourself with others is foolishness,’’ the cleric stated.
He stressed that humility was imitating God, adding that God rewarded and saved the humble.
