Michael Jackson’s iconic moonwalk socks are expected to sell for over $1m at auction.

The late Thriller hitmaker – who died in June 2009 aged 50 – first sported the custom crystal stockings during his Billie Jean performance at Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever in May 1983, and now, the item is tipped to fetch a seven-figure sum.

New Jersey-based auction company GottaHaveRockandRoll are offering the socks as part of their Frank DiLeo collection in the coming weeks, as well as a signed letter from the legendary singer to the late music executive.

Former actor Frank – who passed away in August 2011 aged 63 – managed Michael from 1984 to 1989 – and presented the gift to him as a token of appreciation for keeping the Goodfellas star on his ‘toes’ throughout his Victory Tour.
