JUST IN: Two feared dead as hoodlums raze Uzodinma’s residence in Imo (PHOTOS/VIDEO)

The residence of Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, at his hometown in Omuma, Oru East local government area of Imo state, was on Saturday morning attacked and set ablaze by a suspected gang of vandals wearing black attire.

 

The attack was said to have attracted the attention of the villagers as firefighters and sympathisers struggled to quell the fire.

Reports said that some official vehicles were also lost to the inferno.

 

PUNCH stated that the rampaging gunmen killed two of the security men on duty at Oguta-Mgbidi Junction who attempted to repel their advances.

 

The popular Oguta-Mgbidi Junction was said to be the road leading to the governor’s country home.

At the time of filing this report, eyewitnesses disclosed that the military had taken over the community.

 

Confirming the incident, State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Declan Emelumba corroborated earlier report that two security men at the governor’s house lost their lives during the attack.

 

“It is true, but the information is not still clear. It is not true that several security men lost their lives. About two security men on duty at the governor’s house were killed. NSCDC personnel was among the security men who lost their lives during the attack,” he said.
