Alleged rituals: Mayorkun slams Tiktoker Nicki Da Barbie with 1bn lawsuit
Renowned Nigerian musician and songwriter, Adewale Emmanuel, widely known as Mayorkun, has taken legal action against popular TikTok influencer, Precious Kingsley, also known as Nicki DaBarbie, following her allegations of involvement in ritual activities.
Nicki DaBarbie had earlier accused Mayorkun and fellow singer Skiibii of attempting to involve her in occultic rituals, claiming to have narrowly escaped after praying intensely.
In a video shared on her Instagram account, the influencer recounted her experience, alleging threats of legal action against her if she disclosed further details. She also expressed concerns about attempts to discredit her by falsely portraying her as being under the influence of drugs.
Mayorkun responded by filing a N1 billion lawsuit against Nicki DaBarbie, citing defamation of character and reputational damage resulting from her accusations.
A legal letter prepared by Monarchs & Stroud Legal Practitioners on behalf of Mayorkun, signed by Associate Oluwagbemiga Ogunlade and Founding Partner Kolawole Hassan, refuted the allegations and demanded immediate retraction and apology.
“Our client denies all allegations made against him as baseless, bizarre, and untrue. Your reckless remarks have caused him financial loss and emotional trauma, tarnishing his reputation,” the letter stated.
Mayorkun insisted that Nicki DaBarbie remove the defamatory posts from all her social media platforms within 24 hours and issue a public apology, to be published in two national newspapers.
He also demanded compensation of not less than N1 billion for the emotional distress caused by her actions.
