A woman who previously accused US rapper, Jay-Z, of raping her when she was 13 has withdrawn the allegation, telling a court that she never met or spoke to the musician and that her claims against him were false.
The woman, whose identity has not been disclosed, had alleged that Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, and Sean “Diddy” Combs sexually assaulted her following the MTV Video Music Awards in September 2000.
She filed a civil lawsuit against the two men in 2024 but later withdrew the case in 2025.
Carter had denied the allegations, describing them as a “fictional tale.”
In a recent court filing, the woman explicitly disavowed her allegations against Carter.
“I have never met or spoken to Mr Carter. Mr Carter never engaged in any inappropriate conduct towards me,” the woman stated.
“There is no truth to any of my claims against Mr Carter,” she added.
“I understand that my false accusations have caused Mr Carter immense pain, suffering and damage that can never be fully undone.”
The statement was submitted by Carter’s lawyers in connection with a countersuit against the woman and attorneys who had represented her. That case is now being dismissed.
The woman said she was prompted to contact lawyers after seeing a Facebook advertisement seeking people with sexual-assault claims involving Combs.
“The ad triggered memories of being raped when I was 13 years old,” she said.
She subsequently contacted a law firm but said she later became uncertain about the allegations and the circumstances under which the lawsuit was filed.
According to the court document, she does not remember authorising her lawyers to file the complaint in the form in which it was ultimately submitted. She later withdrew the lawsuit after developing “doubts” about her own claims.
The filing also contains partially redacted information concerning the woman’s mental health. The available document does not establish a direct connection between those issues and the allegations she previously made.
Carter has consistently denied the accusation. His latest legal action against the woman and her former lawyers followed the withdrawal of the original lawsuit.
The development marks a significant reversal of the allegations against Carter, with the woman now formally stating that her claims against him had no basis.
