VIDEO! The Church was the first government, says Babajide Sanwo-Olu
The All Progressives Congress candidate in the 2019 Lagos State gubernatorial election, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has described the church as the first government.
The 53-year-old said this while speaking at the Karis Award organised by the Reverend Chris Okotie’s House of God Ministries in Lagos on Sunday.
The Karis Award is the highlight of the church’s GRACE event and it is given each year to a distinguished but unsung Nigerian whose contributions to society is not widely recognized.
Speaking at the event Sanwo-Olu said,
“What we are doing today is mandated and accepted by God, because the church is the first point of call; the church was the first government and that is truly, really what you are doing today. It’s by giving back, it is by showing the leadership and the example to all others. So, my wish is that all other churches do follow in all other forms they can intervene and support all of the community in which they found themselves. I think it is a worthy cause and it is something that everybody must emulate.”
Sanwo-Olu also advised congregants to change the narrative and participate actively in the state’s politics.
He said,
When you are choosing who are leaders is, you cannot afford not to participate, you cannot to take a back seat, you cannot afford not to ask questions, you cannot afford to let this opportunity slips by. I think you need to make us accountable, I think you need to make us talk about the leadership, I think you need to make us talk about the things that will affect each and every one of you, I think we need to change the conversation.
This year, the Karis award will go to Chief Reginald E.O Akpofure OFR, the first Nigerian principal of the famous King’s College, Lagos.
