US delegation visits Chief of Air Staff, makes new promise on Boko Haram (Photos)

The Director, United States Defence Intelligence Agency, Lt Gen Vincent Stewart, on Monday, led a delegation of US officials and diplomats to visit the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Mshl Sadique Abubakar, at the Nigerian Air Force headquarters (NAF), Abuja.

This was made known in the pictures and post shared on the official Facebook page of the Nigerian Air Force HQ few minutes ago.

Lt Gen Stewart during the visit pledged US commitment to provide assistance to Nigeria in countering terrorism and violent extremism in the country.

Lt Gen Stewart who was on a working visit to strategic military institutions in Abuja to foster existing bilateral military relations and security collaboration between the United States and Nigeria, said the US appreciates moves by Nigeria towards strengthening democratic principles and human rights.

He lauded the effort and sacrifice of the Armed Forces of Nigeria in the fight against insurgency while commiserating with the leadership of the NAF about the unfortunate incident of the accidental air strike in Rann. He assured that the US is ready to assist the NAF with its investigation in whatever capacity concerning the accidental bombing.

The Chief of the Air Staff in his response, appealed to the US to help Nigeria towards addressing the gap in the fight against terrorism. He said NAF is in need of Fighter Ground Attack (FGA) and Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft to enhance its capability and effectiveness in fighting the Boko Haram insurgency.
