Two brothers in court for alleged obstruction, assault
The police charged Bola, 45, and Qudus Ipayi, 26, with two counts of willful obstruction and assault.
The prosecution counsel, ASP Akpan Nkem, told the court that the defendants committed the offense on Jan.23, at about noon in the Ijotun, Oko-Afo, Badagry area of Lagos.
The prosecution told the court that the Ipayi brothers blocked Sgt Esther Shekoni from performing her official duty by preventing her from arresting a suspect, Sodiq Abolarinwa, now at large.
The prosecutor said the defendants also assaulted hit Olamilekan Gidado in the mouth and he sustained a deep cut on his upper lip.
Nkem said that the offense contravened the provisions of sections 1, 174, and 168 of the Criminal Law of Lagos state of Nigeria, 2015.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Patrick Adekomaiya, admitted the Ipayi brothers to bail in the sum of N300,000 each and two sureties each in the like sum.
Adekomaiya adjourned the case until March 15 for mention.
