Troops of Operation HADIN KAI successfully repelled a coordinated attack by suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province terrorists in Bitta, located in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

According to the Nigerian Army, the attempted assault occurred at about 10:25 p.m. on Saturday, July 26, with insurgents advancing from the Damboa axis. The army disclosed the details in a post via its official X handle, formerly Twitter.

The statement noted that the terrorists briefly breached the outer defensive perimeter but were quickly overwhelmed by troops following a fierce exchange of gunfire.

“Several terrorists were neutralised in the encounter, while troops recovered AK-47 rifles and other arms and ammunition,” the Army stated, adding that no casualties were recorded among the soldiers.

In a follow-up operation on Sunday, July 27, the Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division led a team of senior military commanders to Bitta for an on-the-ground assessment. The GOC directed the immediate reorganisation and remobilisation of troops to strengthen the area’s security and maintain high levels of operational alertness.

The Army further assured that the general security situation in Bitta and surrounding communities remains calm, “though unpredictable, while troops’ morale and combat readiness remain high.”

Operation HADIN KAI is the Nigerian military’s ongoing counterterrorism and counterinsurgency initiative in the North East aimed at eradicating Boko Haram and ISWAP insurgents.
