Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have arrested two fake policemen in Taraba State for trafficking cannabis.
The suspects were intercepted at Takum Junction in Wukari Local Government Area while driving two Toyota Hilux vans loaded with bags of substances suspected to be cannabis sativa.
According to a statement signed by Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, the arrest followed credible intelligence. He confirmed that preliminary findings showed none of the occupants were serving police officers despite wearing mobile police uniforms.
The statement read, “The cannabis-laden vehicles were traced to Akure, Ondo State, and were heading towards Adamawa before they were stopped. One of the suspects has been identified as Monday George, a 71-year-old dismissed Police ASP, and the other as Ezeugo Destiny Uche, aged 41. The occupants of the second Hilux abandoned the vehicle and escaped upon sighting the troops.”
A total of 1,134 blocks of cannabis were recovered from the two vehicles. Both the suspects and the seized exhibits have been handed over to the NDLEA office in Wukari for further investigation and prosecution.
The operation is part of Operation Lafiya Nakowa, an ongoing joint security exercise across Taraba State aimed at tackling banditry, drug trafficking, and other crimes.
Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, commended the troops and NDLEA operatives for their cooperation and resilience. He assured residents that the Brigade remains committed to ensuring Taraba is unsafe for criminals.
He also appealed to the public to keep supporting security agencies with credible information, stressing that such partnerships were vital to sustaining peace and security in the state.
