US teen shoots school security guard’s head during brawl
A 16-year-old boy was arrested Sunday for shooting a school security guard in the back of the head outside a high school football game between Proctor High School and Binghamton High School in Utica, New York, police said.
The guard, who has not been identified, was in critical but stable condition at a local hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
The shooting happened Saturday afternoon after a fight broke out in the parking lot outside Proctor High School.
The guard and another security employee were trying to break up the fight when the teen suspect opened fire.
The teen suspect was identified after detectives reviewed several videos filmed at the scene.
However, the teen surrendered to police Sunday and was charged with attempted murder and firearm offenses. His motive for the shooting is still under investigation.
Police said the teen is not a current student at Proctor High School but is enrolled in an alternative educational program.
