Joshua hushes Fury, reignites rumours of potential heavyweight fight

Anthony Joshua has urged Tyson Fury to “stop running his mouth” as rumors of a potential all-British heavyweight clash reignite.

Joshua is set to face Otto Wallin on the ‘Day of Reckoning’ card in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on December 23, hoping that a victory propels him back into world title contention. The highly anticipated bout is co-headlined by Deontay Wilder

Despite persistent discussions, a matchup between Joshua and WBC champion Fury has yet to materialize.

Fury is scheduled to face Oleksandr Usyk in a historic fight to unify the heavyweight division on February 17, also in Riyadh, with all four major belts at stake for the first time.

Due to a probable rematch clause between Fury and Usyk, the earliest conceivable date for Joshua and Fury to step into the ring would be the end of 2024.

Joshua acknowledges that the ongoing speculation is becoming protracted, stating that the “will-they-won’t-they saga” is getting drawn out.

Describing Fury as a “diva” during an interview with TNT Sports presenter Laura Woods, Joshua expressed his frustration with the constant verbal exchanges.

When asked who would win a potential fight between them, Joshua confidently asserted, “Me. I’m too quick, too strong, you can’t lean on me, can’t throw me about, and I’m explosive. I knock a lot of people out. It wouldn’t be early [knockout], he’s a good fighter, but I would be there 100%.”

Joshua suggested that Fury redirect his focus inward, particularly after Fury’s controversial split-decision win over Francis Ngannou in October.

He dismissed Fury’s critique of bodybuilders, emphasizing that Fury got “smacked up” by one.

Acknowledging the upcoming Fury vs. Usyk bout’s significance, Joshua conceded that his hopes of becoming undisputed are unlikely due to the division’s evolving dynamics.

He expressed realism, stating, “It won’t happen anymore. I think it’s just the reality.” Joshua believes Usyk and Fury are now positioned to compete for undisputed, a scenario that would likely result in the belts being split again.
