Former England international Raheem Sterling has been charged with dangerous driving and possession of nitrous oxide. These charges follow a Lamborghini crash on a motorway in England.

According to Vanguard, the 31-year-old is also accused of failing to provide a specimen. He is expected to appear before Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on September 15.

Crash happened on M3

The charges relate to a single-vehicle collision on the M3 southbound near the Minley Interchange in Hampshire on May 28.

Sterling’s Lamborghini reportedly collided with motorway barriers.

Police said no other vehicles were involved in the incident and no injuries were reported.

Sterling was arrested following the crash before being released on bail while investigations continued.

Police confirm three charges

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary confirmed that Sterling has now been charged with three offences.

They are dangerous driving, possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation and failing to provide a specimen.

Police had initially investigated whether the footballer had been driving while unfit through drugs. However, that allegation is not among the charges now before the court.

A source close to Sterling previously maintained there was no proof that drugs were present in his system.

Sterling currently without club

The former Manchester City and Chelsea winger is currently without a club. He left Feyenoord at the end of last season.

Sterling previously enjoyed a highly successful spell at Manchester City. At the club, he won four Premier League titles, five League Cups and the FA Cup.

He later joined Chelsea and also spent the 2024/25 campaign on loan at Arsenal.

The winger earned 82 caps for England between 2012 and 2022. He represented the country at three World Cups and two European Championships.

Attention will now turn to his September court appearance as the legal proceedings continue.
