Senate demands justice for slain army personnel in Delta
The Senate has strongly condemned the brutal killing of 16 Army personnel during a peace mission in Okuama community of Ughelli South Local Government Area, Delta State.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Senate insisted that the perpetrators of the heinous act must face the full weight of the law.
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Nigerian Army, Senator Abdulaziz Yar’adua, expressed the Senate’s deep condolences to the Chief of Defence Staff, the Chief of Army Staff, and the entire Nigerian Army, as well as the families of the slain soldiers.
Yar’adua emphasized the sacrifices made by the Commanding Officer, three officers, and 12 soldiers during the tragic incident, hailing their bravery and commitment as exemplary virtues of patriotism and courage.
He commended the prompt response of the Chief of Defence Staff in initiating an immediate investigation to apprehend the perpetrators of the crime. Yar’adua stressed the importance of ensuring justice for the fallen heroes and holding those responsible for the crime accountable for their actions.
“The Senate Committee on the Nigerian Army stands resolutely alongside the Defence Headquarters and the Nigerian Army in seeking justice for the fallen heroes. We shall spare no effort in supporting the necessary investigations and legal processes to ensure that those responsible for this crime face the full consequences of their actions,” Yar’adua stated.
