Hip-Hop’s first matriarch was born in Newark, New Jersey, and named Dana Owens.
Queen Latifah grew from an affluent and promising basketball player from Irvington, New Jersey into one of the most iconic figures in Hip Hop.
In 1989, Latifah released her first album, “All Hail to the Queen,” which went on to sell more than 1 million copies.
The singer has also delivered great role plays in movies, many of which are epic dramas.
Whenever she plays a role, she always gets critical acclamation for her performance.
