The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has approved a petition by the family of late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad. Consequently, there will be a fresh and comprehensive investigation into his death.

According to The PUNCH, the family’s lawyer, Oladayo Ogungbe, said the petition raised concerns about inconsistencies in the previous investigation. Furthermore, it requested a forensic reconstruction of the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death.

Fresh investigation assigned to Lagos police

The family submitted the petition to the IGP on April 14, 2026. The Force Headquarters received it on May 7.

After approval, police forwarded the petition to the Lagos State Police Command for action.

Ogungbe said the matter had been assigned to officers of the Special Enquiry Bureau. He also said that members of Mohbad’s family had already engaged with the new investigators.

“The re-investigation is ongoing. The Aloba Family remains fully engaged. The pursuit of justice for Mohbad continues,” the lawyer said.

Family separates probe from dismissed suit

The family also clarified that a Federal High Court case recently dismissed in Abuja was separate from the petition submitted to the police.

Ogungbe said the family neither filed nor authorised the dismissed suit. He urged the public not to confuse it with the ongoing police investigation.

The family said it would continue to provide documents, witnesses, and other relevant materials to investigators. Meanwhile, they are seeking a credible and transparent process.
