Qatar 2022: World Cup ball to have tracking device
The Federation Internationale de Football Association has announced that the Adidas’ 2022 World Cup ball will feature a tracking device.
FIFA via its official website stated, “Adidas’ 2022 World Cup ball will feature a tracking device used for semi-automated offside technology for the first time.”
The ball would gove the video assistant referee precise data to support fast and accurate offside calls.
It was also explained that this sensor, placed in the centre of the ball, sends ball data to the video operation room 500 times per second, allowing for very precise determination of the point of impact.
“The new technology provides an automated offside alert to video match officials in the video operations room when the ball is received by a striker who is currently offside,” FIFA explained.
