Police threaten to ‘deal’ with handler of parody Twitter account, tell public to unfollow
The Nigeria Police Force has dissociated itself from a parody Twitter account which has been posting satirical tweets about the activities of its operatives.
The handle @PoliceNGFaux has been creating a sort of sensation since its emergence a few weeks ago after tweeting a series of subliminal posts making a mockery of the modes of operation of the police force.
The disclaimer is coming after several viral tweets mocking the police emanated from the parody account with over 9,000 followers.
One of the tweets which garnered about 6,000 retweets and over 13,000 likes read:
Seeing our salary of 10 years in the hands of one small boy makes us aggressive https://t.co/mmjbo3LQSG

Another viral tweet from the parody account which garnered over 6,000 retweets and over 12,000 likes also read:

Despite stating in its bio that it is a parody account, the Police denied the account and advised members of the public not to follow the handle.
Its bio reads:
“Official PARODY Twitter account of The Nigerian Police Force/This account DOES NOT REPRESENT THE VIEWS of NPF/Report cases to @PoliceNG/Crime News 24/7.”
However, in a statement via its verified Twitter handle @PoliceNG on Monday, the NPF described the handle as fraudulent and vowed to deal with the handler ‘appropriately’.
NPF tweeted:
“The attention of the Nigeria Police Force has been drawn to a new Twitter handle known as “@policeNGfaux.” Be it known to the public that the handle does not emanate from the Nigeria Police Force.
“It is not only fraudulent but ostensibly designed to spread fake news and consequently tarnish the image of the Force. Members of the public are advised not to “follow” the handle and those currently “following” the handle are advised to stop forthwith.
“Meanwhile, investigation is on to ascertain the source of the fraudulent handle and deal with it appropriately.”
Information on the handle’s bio reveals that it was created in July 2012.
