Families and next-of-kin of 34 police officers who died in service have received N26 million in group life assurance benefits in Bauchi State.
According to Nigerian Tribune, Bauchi State Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu presented the cheques to the beneficiaries. He did this on behalf of Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu.
The payments were made under the Nigeria Police Force Group Life Assurance Scheme. This scheme provides financial support to families of personnel who die in the course of duty.

Aliyu expressed condolences to the beneficiaries over the loss of their relatives. Moreover, he encouraged them to use the payments to support their families.
He said the initiative reflected the police leadership’s commitment to the welfare of serving officers and retired personnel. Furthermore, it also showed care for the families of deceased officers.
The commissioner also urged beneficiaries to invest the money prudently, particularly in education and healthcare. He also suggested they meet other needs capable of improving their families’ welfare.
The scheme is intended to provide financial relief to relatives of police personnel who die while serving the country.
Police reaffirm welfare commitment
The presentation follows similar payments under the Group Life Assurance Scheme to families of deceased officers in other state commands.
Police authorities have repeatedly described personnel welfare as an important part of efforts to improve morale across the force.
The Bauchi beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police for sustaining the scheme. They also thanked him for providing support to families left behind by deceased personnel.
