Miami-Dade law enforcement officer Luis Hernandez made a stunning UFC debut after submitting Sedriques Dumas in just 57 seconds of their light-heavyweight fight in Las Vegas.
According to Daily Mail, Hernandez stepped into the fight on just two days’ notice. He then produced a dominant performance against Dumas at UFC Vegas 121 at the Meta Apex on Saturday.
Hernandez immediately pressured his opponent before landing a powerful left hand that appeared to hurt Dumas.
He followed up by controlling Dumas in the clinch before locking in a standing guillotine choke. This forced him to tap less than a minute into the opening round.
Hernandez makes dream UFC debut
The victory came only 11 days after Hernandez earned his UFC contract through Dana White’s Contender Series.
Hernandez had initially not been scheduled to compete at the event. However, he was called in as a late replacement for Mickey Gall, who withdrew from his fight against Dumas because of medical issues.
The bout was subsequently moved to light heavyweight.
Hernandez, nicknamed “The Stache,” also played into the unusual police officer-versus-convicted felon storyline. He did so by walking out to KRS-One’s “Sound of da Police.”
His victory maintained his unbeaten professional mixed martial arts record at 9-0.
All nine of Hernandez’s professional victories have come by stoppage, including six submissions and three knockouts.
Dumas taps to standing guillotine
After rocking Dumas early, Hernandez pushed him towards the cage and took control of the exchange.
Dumas attempted to recover, but Hernandez secured the guillotine as his opponent returned to his feet. He quickly forced the submission.
The UFC officially recorded Hernandez’s victory as a submission at 57 seconds of the first round.
The performance also earned Hernandez a Performance of the Night bonus.
Hernandez has indicated that he plans to move down to the welterweight division for future fights. He wants to build on his explosive UFC debut.
