Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has been ruled out of Portugal’s Nations League clash against Norway. The Bruno Fernandes injury comes after he suffered a fitness problem during his country’s victory over Wales.

According to Vanguard, Portugal coach Jorge Jesus confirmed that Fernandes would not feature against Norway. This decision was made due to the Bruno Fernandes injury, after the midfielder was substituted late in Thursday’s 1-0 win over Wales.

Jesus revealed that Fernandes had been playing through pain for several matches before the problem worsened.

Bruno Fernandes injury raises United concern

“In the game against Wales, we went in with all the available players but Bruno Fernandes came off with a complicated problem,” Jesus said. The Bruno Fernandes injury could impact both club and country if his recovery takes longer than expected.

The Portugal coach added that Fernandes had been dealing with the pain for about three games. Therefore, he decided against risking him against Norway.

“I prefer not to risk him in this game and have him clean and in good physical condition for the Denmark game,” Jesus said.

Fernandes has featured heavily for Manchester United this season. In fact, he has played every minute of the club’s opening five Premier League matches, though some fans are now concerned about a potential Bruno Fernandes injury affecting future games.

The midfielder also completed United’s Champions League victory over Sabah and has remained one of Michael Carrick’s most important players.

Fernandes is expected to target a return for Portugal’s Nations League fixture against Denmark in Copenhagen, depending on his recovery.

Manchester United will return to Premier League action against Tottenham on October 10.
