The Ondo State Police Command has arrested one Deji Adenuga who set ablaze nine members of his ex-girlfriend’s family in their one-room apartment at Adetuwo Street in Igbodigho, Ondo State.

Adenuga committed the act following a disagreement he had with his estranged girlfriend, Titi Sanumi.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Femi Joseph, confirmed the arrest.

Joseph said the suspect had been arrested and would be paraded tomorrow at the command’s headquarters, Akure, the state capital.

According to Joseph, the suspect was arrested under a bridge, along Lagos/Benin Expressway in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State. He is said to be one of the inmates that escaped from the Olokuta Prison in Akure, during the prison break that occurred in 2013.

Deji went on the run after the incident killed 8 of his ex-girlfriend’s family members. Recounting how the incident occurred, a source said;

“What happened today (Tuesday) was shocking. The man (Adenuga) almost wiped out an entire family early this morning. He was angry because the girl (Titi) he was dating said she was no more interested in the relationship. In order to deal with the girl, he poured petrol in the room where all members of her family were sleeping and set them ablaze.

“He actually missed his target because the girl was not in the room at the time he set the room ablaze. Eight members of the family were severely burnt. Five of them have been confirmed dead, while the remaining three were rushed to the Trauma Centre, Ondo, where they are receiving treatment”
