A Jos Area Court sitting in Nasarawa Gwong on Wednesday sentenced a labourer, Emmanuel Zamfra, 32, to six months imprisonment for stealing.

The convict stole a plasma television set, clothing materials, a cowboy cap and the cash sum of N74,000, the court heard.

The Judge, Adama Galadima, handed down the sentence after the convict pleaded guilty to the two charges of criminal conspiracy and theft and begged the court for leniency.

Galadima, however, gave the convict an option of N10,000 fine and ordered that he should pay a compensation of N78, 000 to the complainant.

Earlier, the police prosecutor, Insp. Ibrahim Gowkat, told the court that the case was reported at the Rantya Police station, Jos, on December 29, 2021 by one Henry Jadike.

He revealed that the complainant said that on the same date the convict broke into his house and stole the following items — one plasma television set, a cowboy cap, four new clothing materials, a suit material and a cash sum of N74, 000.

The police prosecutor further told the court that during police investigation, the convict pleaded guilty to have committed the crime.

Gowkat said that the offence contravened Sections 59 and 272 of the Plateau State Penal Code, Law of Northern Nigeria.
