Piers Morgan blasts Novak Djokovic for clubbing with coronavirus

Published

Piers Morgan has slammed Novak Djokovic for hosting a tennis tournament amid the Coronavirus pandemic, and later testing positive to the virus.

We earlier reported that Novak Djokovic and his wife Jelena tested positive for COVID-19 and as well as four other players who took part in the tournament. A pregnant wife of one of his friends also tested positive for the killer disease.

Djokovic who has come under intense fire for organising the tennis tournament during the COVID-19 pandemic has since apologised for holding the event.

He said:

“I am extremely sorry for each individual case of infection. I hope that it will not complicate anyone’s health situation and that everyone will be fine.”

“The moment we arrived in Belgrade we went to be tested. My result is positive, just as Jelena’s, while the results of our children are negative.

“Everything we did in the past month, we did with a pure heart and sincere intentions. Our tournament meant to unite and share a message of solidarity and compassion throughout the region.

“We organized the tournament at the moment when the virus has weakened, believing that the conditions for hosting the Tour had been met. Unfortunately, this virus is still present, and it is a new reality that we are still learning to cope and live with.”

Speaking on Good Morning Britain today, Piers Morgan fumed at the actions of the World Number 1:

“One of the infected people is the pregnant wife of his close friend – the Serbian player – Viktor Troicki.

“I mean that’s, you know, to have caused a situation where one of your best friends wives is pregnant and gets infected with the virus.

“It was so reckless. Some of the scenes – the partying scenes – let us look at this.”

“I mean that is utterly ridiculous. For the world’s best tennis player to be basically putting on this kind of thing in the middle of the pandemic.”
