Pep Guardiola loses first Champions League final

Chelsea on Saturday compounded the misery of Manchester City after the two English clubs squared up for Europe’s most coveted football trophy.

The UEFA Champions League thus became the Achilles heel of Pep Guardiola, who against bookmakers prediction, lost his first-ever Champions League title.

Dubbed as one of the most successful managers in history, the Spaniard is widely regarded as a great tactician in modern football.

The 50-year-old and his keen eyes for details, has previously won two Champions League titles while he was with Barcelona, beating Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United on both occasions.

If Man City were to win today’s final, Guardiola could have become the sixth manager to win the Champions League with two different clubs.

Had City lifted the trophy, the Spaniard could also have become the fourth coach to win the Champions League title thrice, following the likes of Zinedine Zidane (Real Madrid), Carlo Ancelotti (AC Milan and Real Madrid) and Bob Paisley (Liverpool).
