Passenger remanded for allegedly robbing commercial motorcyclist

 An Ilorin Magistrates’ Court on Thursday remanded a 32-year-old passenger, Rasheed Razaq, for allegedly robbing a commercial motorcyclist, Tanko Aliyu, of his Bajaj Boxer motorcycle valued at N235,000.

The accused is facing trial on a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and armed robbery.

Magistrate Bimbola Bamigbola ordered the remand of the defendant at Oke-Kura Correctional Centre, Ilorin, and adjourned the case till March 23, for further mention.

Earlier, the Prosecuting Counsel, Insp. Isaac Yakub told the court that the defendant conspired with one other now at large and hit the complainant with the hammer on his head, and robbed him of his unregistered motorcycle.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

The prosecutor said that the alleged offenses contravened Sections 6B and 1(2) of Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision) Act Cap. R11 Law of Federation of Nigeria 2004.

He urged the court to remand the defendant in police custody pending the outcome of the investigation.
