Osun threatens to shut steel company over emission
Osun State Government has warned the management of Prism Steel Mills, Ikirun, to comply with its health and safety recommendations or risk total closure.
The warning was handed down during an inspection tour by the officials of the State’s Ministry of Environment and Sanitation to the industry.
Commissioner for Environment and Sanitation, Mr. Sola Oladepo, who led other officials of the Ministry on an inspection tour, however, expressed concerns about the level of adherence of Prism Steel Mills to the directives of the government.
A statement by Oladepo said though the Commissioner observed improvement in the management of emissions from the site, the government expected that actions be expedited on the recommendations for the overall protection of human health, vegetation and the environment in general.
He then “warned that the government will not hesitate to shut down the company if it fails to meet the recommendations within the stipulated time.”
