Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, netted a late winner as Napoli defeated Torino at the Stadio San Paolo Stadium on Sunday.

Napoli came into the game with only one defeat in their last 18 Serie A games against Torino (0-1 in March 2015), with 12 wins and five draws.

After losing 0-1 against Juventus, Torino aimed to avoid a goal drought – failure to score for two consecutive league games for the first time since last January (v Milan and Spezia).

The visitors did well to hold Spaletti’s men for 80 minutes with shared spoils looking like the possible outcome.

However, Nigeria’s Osimhen had other plans and he found the back of the net one minute later to sink Torino in front of the home crowd in the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.

With the win, Napoli have equalled the best start in their history in Serie A, as they did in the 2017-18 season when they won their first eight games.

Osimhen’s goal ensured the Partenopei returned to the top of the Serie A standings with two points ahead of second-placed AC Milan.

Defending champions Inter are third with 17 points, Jose Mourinho’s Roma are fourth with 15 points whit Lazio and Atalanta are fifth and sixth respectively with 14 points.

Meanwhile, Juventus languish in ninth spot with 11 points after eight games.
