The Federal Road Safety Corps announced the deployment of 1,500 officers to help ensure a smooth Ondo State governorship election on November 16, 2024.
Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed approved this deployment to support other security agencies and enforce vehicle movement restrictions on election day.
In a statement on Thursday, Assistant Corps Marshal and FRSC spokesperson, Olusegun Ogungbemide, emphasized the need for order and professionalism during the election.
He explained that the FRSC has arranged 25 patrol vehicles, seven tow trucks, and six ambulances to help control traffic, clear road obstructions, and respond to any emergencies.
Ogungbemide quoted the Corps Marshal, saying, “As part of efforts put in place to ensure smooth conduct of the forthcoming Ondo State gubernatorial election…the Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps, Shehu Mohammed, has approved the deployment of 1,500 operatives.” The statement further outlined the roles of the deployed officers, including maintaining order at polling booths and assisting with any necessary rescue operations.
The Corps Marshal advised the officers to act with “the highest sense of professionalism” and avoid any actions that might interfere with voters’ rights. He also urged the public to follow the FRSC’s traffic guidelines on election day to help ensure a peaceful voting process.
The FRSC also encouraged voters to cooperate with the officials, reminding them that these measures are aimed at facilitating a safe, fair, and orderly election.
