Ondo 2020: Crisis in SDP as two guber candidates emerge
Crisis in the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Ondo State have deepened following the emergence of two candidates at parallel primaries held in Akure.
An educationalist, Mr Tope Fasua, emerged as the party’s candidate at the primary held at the party’s secretariat in Akure while Alhaji Adekunle Saliu emerged candidate in the primary attended by 360 delegates and held at Motel Place in Ondo town.
Fasua emerged after two other contestants, Mr Festus Owolola and Otunba Bamidele Oduwale, withdrew from the race.
National Vice Chairman, South West, of the SDP, Mr Bade Falade, said eight delegates were accredited from each of the 18 local government area.
He said;
“Fasua emerged as our candidate for the Oct. 10 election when the other aspirants stepped down for him.
“Having met all the guidelines of our party, Mr Peter Oyeleye Fasua is hereby returned elected as candidate of SDP for the Ondo State governorship election,” he said.
Fasua said the SDP was in the race to bring good dividend of democracy to the people at the grassroots.
In the parallel primary of SDP held in Ondo town, Saliu emerged through affirmative motion and conducted by National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Alfa Mohammed.
Saliu was elected through a “Yes” votes from all the 360 delegates.
National Secretary of the party who also doubles as the chairman of the Primary Election Committee, Alhaji Hussein Saleh Dass and National Welfare Officer of the party, Prince Wale Aladeoba, were in attendance.
Also present at the primary were the Acting Ondo State Chairman of SDP, Barrister Dele Thomas, former Ondo State Chairman and national leader of the party, Chief Korede Duyile, State Secretary of the party and Mr Festus Agboola.
In his speech, Alhaji Saliu promised to lead the party to victory in the governorship election.
