Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Olu Falae, has dismissed concerns that the death of Afenifere leader Pa Reuben Fasoranti could trigger a leadership crisis within the pan-Yoruba organisation.

According to The Guardian, Falae made the remarks while speaking with journalists at Fasoranti’s residence in Akure, Ondo State.

The former minister expressed confidence that the organisation would follow its established tradition in selecting a successor.

“Leadership chooses itself. A new leader will emerge without any struggle,” he said.

He explained that Afenifere members traditionally identified suitable leaders through consultation and consensus.

Falae expressed hope that the same process would guide the organisation following Fasoranti’s death.

The late elder statesman died on Tuesday, October 20, at the age of 100.
