Recession or obsession: Why do you think this man stole unripe plantain?
One Victor Ekpo Okon was on Thursday arrested by men of the Akwa Ibom State Police command for stealing a bunch of unripe plantain.
Okon, a resident of Afaha Atai village in Akwa Ibom State is married with five children. Police handcuffed him and took him away after he was caught in the act .
Though Okon’s reason for the act is yet unknown, the question on the lips of many observers whether is act was prompted by the current economic reality in the country or his obsession with unripe plantain.
Akwa Ibom is a state in the southern part of Nigeria. Before the National Bureau of statistics recently revealed that Nigeria is officially in a recession, Similar act of stealing food was gradually becoming popular in the country.
