Nigerians remember Aluu 4 killing
Aluu, Rivers State. Four young men were brutally murdered on this day, October 5, 2012, exactly four years ago.
The four undergraduates of the University of Port Harcourt – Ugonna Ibuzor, Llyod Michael, Tekena Elkanah and Chidiaka Biringa – were killed in Aluu, Rivers State. They were first beaten to a pulp and then set ablaze by an irate mob over allegations of robbery.
Findings later revealed that the boys were not robbers.
Uniport students protested. The protest turned violent and the school was shut down for over a month.
An online campaign was launched to have the killers identified and punished. The village head, Alhaji Hassan Walewa, and 13 were arrested but so far, nobody has been punished for the killing.
Four years after, Nigerians are remembering the four, criticizing the country’s justice system and praying for the families the deceased.
Here are some comments by Nigerians as they remember the deceased.
