JUST IN: Ogun impeaches Assembly deputy speaker for gross misconduct
Deputy speaker of Ogun State Assembly, Dare Kadiri, has been impeached over an allegation of gross misconduct.
Kadiri represented Ijebu North Constituency II at the Assembly.
His impeachment was coming a week after some lawmakers signed a petition for his removal.
The deputy speaker was accused of insubordination to the Office of the Speaker through unauthorized self-approval of expenditure.
He was said to have involved an external body in the affairs of the House without exploring an internal mechanism for the amicable resolution of issues.
Other allegations comprised abuse of office, the threat to lives and properties, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, and attempted murder which was committed in his constituency.
On Monday, the Speaker of the assembly, Olakunle Oluomo, constituted a committee to investigate his deputy.
The committee report submitted on Thursday found Kadiri guilty of gross misconduct and he was subsequently impeached as the deputy speaker.
