The Ogun government, on Tuesday, commiserated with the family of a foremost educationist, Prof. Akinola Ogunpola, who passed on in the early hours of Monday in Abeokuta.
The Newsmen reports that the late Ogunpola, who died at the age of 88, was a Commissioner for Education during the administration of former Gov. Olabisi Onabanjo.
The Deputy Governor, Mrs. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, who led the government’s delegation to the family of the deceased, noted that the legacies he left behind in the development of education in the state could not be over-emphasized.
“This is an occasion to celebrate a life well-lived in the service of God and the people of Ogun.
“We are proud to call him our own and for people who were not in Abeokuta when he was here, his legacy in repositioning the education sector led to the naming of one of the model schools in the state after him,” she said.
Salako-Oyedele prayed to God to repose the soul of the deceased and the family, the fortitude to bear the loss.
Speaking on behalf of the family, son of the deceased, Mr. Damilola Ogunpola, who is also the Consultant to Gov.
Dapo Abiodun on New Media thanked the government for identifying with the family “at this trying period”.
The deputy governor was accompanied by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alhaji Afolabi Salisu, some commissioners, special advisers, APC leaders in the state, and the daughter of the first civilian governor of the state, Mrs. Adebukola Onabanjo.
