A police Inspector, Patricia Okhide, has reportedly sustained injuries after a 41-year-old commercial bus driver, John Imoh, allegedly pushed her out of a moving vehicle.
Reports said the policewoman, who is attached to the traffic section of the Nigeria police was performing her lawful duty when the incident happened.
The commercial driver who resides at Ojodu-Berger had since been arrested and was arraigned on Monday at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for assault.
The police Prosecutor Seargent Godwin Awase told the court that the accused committed the offence on April 22 at Fagba, Agege, Lagos.
He said,
“The accused obstructed other road users when he was cautioned to move his vehicle away and he refused.
“He was arrested by the complainant on the order of her boss, but on their way to the station the accused pushed the complainant out of his bus and she was injured.”
The prosecutor said the accused was arrested by some mobile policemen.
He said the offence contravened Section 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
NAN reports that the section stipulates a three-year jail term for assault occasioning harm.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, F.F George, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
George said the sureties must be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The case was adjourned until May 15 for mention.
