20 abducted NYSC prospective corps members regain freedom

Twenty prospective National Youth Service Corps members abducted while travelling from Ibadan, Oyo State, to their orientation camp in the South-East have regained their freedom.

Their release was confirmed on Wednesday in a statement signed by Adeola Oloko, Media Aide to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja.

According to the statement, the Olubadan received the confirmation from the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, during a telephone conversation at about 5 p.m.

The statement quoted the Olubadan as expressing relief over the development and commending efforts towards securing the release of the victims.

The victims are currently receiving medical attention at the Department of State Services (DSS) Hospital in Owerri.

The circumstances surrounding their release and whether any suspects have been arrested were not immediately disclosed.

The prospective corps members were abducted on October 1 while travelling from Ibadan to their NYSC orientation camp in the South-East, an incident that sparked widespread concern across the country and prompted calls for their safe return.
