OAU to confer honorary degrees on Ooni, Elizade boss

The Obafemi Awolowo University has revealed plans to honour the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi and Chief Michael Ade-Ojo, founder of Elizade University with honorary doctorate degree at its convocation scheduled between December 8 and 11.

OAU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Eyitope Ogunbodede, confirmed the report at a press conference in Ile-Ife on Thursday.

Ogunbodede disclosed that the event would also mark the grand-finale of activities of the diamond jubilee of the institution.

He said that Ogunwusi would be conferred with the Honorary Doctor of Letters while Ade-Ojo would receive Honorary Doctor of Business Administration.

He said that the conference was to formally herald activities marking the 45th Convocation and Grand Finale of the 60th Anniversary of the university.

He noted that the 45th edition was special, saying it coincided with the celebration of 60th years of existence of the university.

He said that OAU would graduate no fewer than 7,634 students at all levels of academic qualifications.

”109 graduands bags first class (Honours) for the first degrees and 1,681 graduated with second class (Honours).

”while Lower Division has 2,707 graduands, 690 falls under the Third Class (Honours) and 70 will graduate with pass,” he said.

The vice-chancellor said that total number of first degree graduands would be 5,257.

He further said that 582 graduated from Colleges of Health Sciences and Pharmacy, while Postgraduate Degrees has 1,637 and Non-Degree Diplomas with 158.

He said that graduands had been exposed to different entrepreneurial programmes while on campus as additional opportunities to stand on their own.
