OAU lecturer’s abductors wore military uniforms
Gunmen that abducted Prof Olayinka Adegbehingbe, were in military camouflage, which made many passengers that ran into the ambush by the men, to initially believed they were soldiers.
Prof Adegbehingbe of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery & Traumatology in Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, was said to be returning to his place of work from Lagos Sunday evening when he was abducted.
It was further learnt that the incident happened between Asejire and Ikire town. The gunmen were said to have laid ambush for the commuters at some bad portions on the road where vehicles could not speed.
Adegbehingbe was said to be travelling with his wife, Prof Bernice, said to be the Dean of Faculty of Clinical Sciences in OAU, when gunmen abducted him, as other commuters fled into the bush.
Speaking to our correspondent in Osogbo, Police Public Relations Officer of Osun Police Command, SP Folasade Odoro, explained that preliminary reports available to the command indicate that the abductors wore military uniforms.
Odoro said the State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Ige, Sunday shortly after receiving report of the incident, visited the scene of the crime, adding that operatives from the command are combing the area to ensure Adegbehingbe’s safe release.
She said search and rescue operation to facilitate the safe return of the university lecturer is on and assured that Adegbehingbe would be released unhurt.
