NPFL: Bendel Insurance trash Sporting Lagos, Kwara Utd stun Sunshine Stars
In a thrilling day of Nigeria Premier Football League action, three matches unfolded on Saturday. Bendel Insurance asserted their dominance against Sporting Lagos in a 3-1 victory, Kwara United secured a narrow 1-0 win over Sunshine Stars, and Doma United and Rivers United FC engaged in an intense battle resulting in a 1-1 draw.
Osaghae opened the scoring for Bendel in the 33rd minute, followed by Meze, who doubled the lead at the 38th minute.
Nwachukwu added to the tally in the 60th minute, putting Bendel in a commanding 3-0 lead. Ndedi managed to pull one back for Sporting Lagos with a consolation goal in the 92nd minute.
The win propels Bendel to 5th place on the NPFL table with 30 points, while Sporting Lagos sits in 16th place with 18 points.
In the second match of the day, Kwara United secured a vital 1-0 victory against Sunshine Stars in a closely contested match.
Ogbole was the hero for Kwara, finding the back of the net in the 15th minute. The lone goal proved enough to secure the three points for Kwara United.
With this win, Kwara and Sunshine Stars find themselves neck-and-neck on the table, both with 22 points. Kwara is positioned in 13th place, while Sunshine Stars closely trail in 12th.
The final match of the day sees Doma United and Rivers United FC battle to a 1-1 draw in an exciting encounter.
Kouassi opened the scoring for Doma in the 45+5th minute, giving his team the lead. However, Abiam of Rivers responded with a late equalizer in the 94th minute, ensuring a share of the points.
Doma United sits comfortably in 3rd place on the NPFL table with 32 points, while Rivers United FC holds the 14th spot with 21 points.
