Have you ever wondered what could be done to salvage the tons of milk regarded as unsafe for human consumption and are discarded daily throughout the world?

Wonder no more. It could be made into beautiful clothes. Yes, you read it right, clothes.

A German company is turning waste milk into high-end fashion. Anke Domaske, a biochemist turned fashion designer, is the inventor of QMilch,  a fabric made entirely of milk.

It is not a recent discovery though, as  Domaske revealed.
“Milk fabric has been around since the 1930s, but the process involved chemicals. QMilch doesn’t, and it uses up fewer resources than natural fibers do,” said Domaske.

According to the makers of the fabric QMilch fiber is made from 100 percent renewable resources.

“For the production of 1 kg of fiber we need only 5 minutes and max. 2 liters of water. This implies a particular level of cost efficiency and ensures a minimum of CO2 emissions,” the company reveals.

“Qmilk fiber is biodegradable and leaves no traces. It is naturally antibacterial and ideal for people that suffer from textile allergies and it provides high wearing comfort and a silky feel.”

The company is looking to venture into the automotive industry where it can create materials for the interior of vehicles.
