Nigeria’s Isau Ogunkunle has secured a Bronze medal in Para-Table Tennis, adding to the nation’s growing tally at the ongoing competition.

Ogunkunle delivered a strong performance in his semifinal match against South Korea’s Young-Gun Kim, but ultimately fell short, losing 3-1 in a closely contested match.

Ogunkunle started the match on a high note, winning the first set 11-9. However, the experienced world No. 2, Kim, quickly turned the tide, taking the next three sets 11-5, 11-4, and 13-11.

The Nigerian athlete came close to forcing a decisive fifth set, pushing the fourth set to a tiebreaker, but Kim’s experience prevailed in the end.

In Para-Table Tennis, both losing semifinalists are awarded Bronze medals, meaning Ogunkunle secured his place on the podium without needing to play a separate match for third place.

This achievement brings Nigeria’s overall medal count to five, consisting of 1 Gold, 2 Silver, and 2 Bronze medals. Ogunkunle’s Bronze adds another moment of pride for Nigeria in this international competition.

The nation’s athletes continue to demonstrate their resilience and skill, contributing to Nigeria’s impressive performance on the world stage.
