Nigerians will judge Buhari based on security – Mimiko
A former Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko, has said that Nigerians would judge the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), based on his ability to secure lives and property.
Mimiko, who spoke on Tuesday in Abuja at the 71st birthday celebration of a former member of the House of Representatives, Joseph Akinlaja, noted that that the National Assembly was incapacitated to repeal the 1999 Constitution, calling for additional powers that will enable the parliament to initiate a new Constitution, according to the PUNCH.
His statement comes amidst the spate of insecurity in the country, particularly the Northern region and, lately, the South-Eastern region.
Mimiko said, “Mr President will not be judged by the number of kilometres of standard gauge railway; history will not judge his accomplishment through the Second Niger Bridge, but to what extent he rises up and addresses insecurity in our nation. This is the time to face our challenges as a nation and we shall conquer.”
Meanwhile, the president, in a statement on Tuesday, said he would not tolerate those causing mayhem in the south-eastern part of the country.
“I receive daily security reports on the attacks on critical national infrastructure, and it is very clear that those behind them want this administration to fail. Whoever wants the destruction of the system will soon have the shock of their lives. We’ve given them enough time,” he said.
In the same vein, the president has charged security forces to expedite efforts to rescue the 200 abducted Islamic school students who were kidnapped at Islamiyya school in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State on Sunday.
WUZUPNIGERIA reported that the bandits who kidnapped the students have demanded a ransom of N110m for their release.
